A Message From the President Regarding the EHV-1 Situation

To All Kittitas Valley Trail Riders,

I know that all of us are disappointed not being able to participate in the scheduled Prize Rides, Fun Rides, and scheduled club rides after sitting out all winter and now “chomping at the bit”, to get our riding season underway more-so than we have.  The EHV-1 outbreak is quite serious, no matter what rumors to the contrary you may hear.  I feel as concerned horsemen and horsewomen, we need to do our part in stopping this contagious disease and applaud all those organizations who have taken the action to do so.  It would be a pity to lose your horse that you have put hours and hours of training into. It’s just not worth the risk!

We hope we can get our club rides back on schedule as soon as possible.  In the meantime it’s up to you if you want to ride.  Ride with someone whose horse has not been exposed or at a facility where EHV-1 has been confirmed. (My recommendation is to stay off the John Wayne Trail.)

Respectfully,

Barry E. Callaway

President

Kittitas Valley Trail Riders

Additional event cancellations:

  • Ultimate Drill Weekend Competition at the Washington State Horse Park Saturday (previously reported as going on as scheduled)
  • Roslyn Riders prize ride in Roslyn May 29
  • ACTHA Ride for the Mustangs at the Washington State Horse Park in Cle Elum June 4
  • Eastern Washington Quarter Horse Association prize ride June 5
  • All 4-H events statewide for the next several weeks have been canceled.

It appears that the John Wayne Pioneer Wagons and Riders Cross State Ride is a go, but they ask that if there is any risk that one’s horse has been exposed that they stay home.
